Kayaking on Lake Superior

When we were in the UP, someone had taken the initiative and organized a kayaking tour for those interested. Of course I was all over this - kayaking, Lake Superior, no cell service, what could be better?! Our morning started off with a hearty breakfast at probably the best breakfast place in town - Soumi bakery. They serve an assortment of eggs, omelettes, and quite a big variety of Finnish specialities, Pannukakku and Nisu being two of their most popular. We then hopped in the car for the hour ride to the end of the Earth. Well, it feels like the end of the Earth. Fun fact, Copper Harbor is the city farthest from a major highway in the lower US (no one can compete with Alaska). How's THAT for off the beaten path?!

Wednesday morning dawned bright an early. Our alarm was Captain Ryan playing "It's a Beautiful Morning " by the Rascals - loudly. Isle Royale - Day 2

Early on Tuesday morning, we woke up to the sky alight with an electrical storm. The sky was awesome to watch and the lightning lit everything up almost like daylight. And then then wind came. Followed closely by the rain. Even docked, the boat was rocking. Thankfully the storm was short-lived, but it ushered in much cooler weather and left some lingering wind making for a choppy day on the water.

Isle Royale - Day 1

The next stop in our two week vacation was Grand Portage, Minnesota where we were to board a boat for a week-long liveaboard diving the shipwrecks of Isle Royale.
