They just moved back from Germany, where they lived and worked for two years and are now making their home in the great state of Texas, quite a change for these northerners! Wow guys, it's been a while! Over two months now. I promise, I didn't forget about the blog, or you, we've just been busy. Back in June, we found out that we were moving to Texas and it has been a whirlwind since then. But, now that we are getting settled, the computers are unpacked (which means I have pictures now!), things should start to return to normal on the blog here.
Read MoreIf you've been to just about any major city in central Europe, you've probably seen them. They are small, inconspicuous little brass plates placed in the sidewalks. You can easily walk over them and never have any idea what they are. We did it for months. I imagine that many of them in more well-walked parts of cities are no longer legible. Sometimes it's just one replacing an older cobble stone. Sometimes there are more. So what are these Stolperstein and why devote an entire post to them?
Read MoreOne of the coolest ways to get to know a city is to partake in it's local festivals. In the summer, this isn't all that hard. Germany has festivals happening literally every single weekend. When we were planning our long weekend to Prague, I discovered that we would be there for the last weekend of the Czech Beer Festival. Of course we had to go. Turns out, that was a fantastic decision! Evelyn thought so too.
Read MoreI'm not sure how, but a while ago, Aaron learned about Gulen Dive Resort, a small dive resort about two hours (give or take) north of Bergen, nestled in among the fjords of Western Norway. When he saw they had a house reef with nudibranchs, some of which aren't found anywhere else, AND World War II shipwreck diving, it jumped to pretty close to the top of his list of places to dive. When my sister and I decided to meet up in Norway, and she agree to do some babysitting, we knew we could make it work.

Sometimes, my searching is a bust, other times, it turns up hidden gems. This tour was one of them. Guys, we got to visit a BUNKER in Prague! And yes, it was just as cool, both literally and figuratively, as it sounds.
Read MoreMay is full of holidays in Germany. So many, in fact, that there is only one full week in the entire month. We make sure to take advantage of these holidays by traveling (we did the exact same thing last year by traveling to Iceland, Austria, and Paris). A while ago, Aaron had discovered a dive resort near Bergen, Norway that offered both reef and shipwreck diving in the fjords. We kept it filed away, something that we might want to do once I was back in the water after Evelyn was born. And then my sister said she wanted to come visit. Since she had already visited us in Germany, we decided to meet somewhere else - to explore more of Europe. She and I had always wanted to visit Norway, and combined with the diving Aaron found, Norway was an easy decision.
Read MoreTwo years ago, we were spending our last summer in Michigan for the foreseeable future. We packed up and sold our home, spent weeks, if not months, saying good bye to friends and family, and went on one heck of a two week dive and road trip in the Upper Peninsula. It was stressful to say the least, but we were excited for what lay in store for us in Germany. We knew we wanted to travel and explore the heck out of our new, albeit, temporary home. But, we also always knew that the time would come when we would have to leave. At first, we were only supposed to be here about 16 months. As we got closer to the 16 month mark, our time here kept getting extended. But now, the time has come for us to leave.
